This is (Elisabeth Marus) Lissie's debut studio album. The EP's released by this artist since 2007 have served to toughen her up and round out her sound, which on this work is a cool and graceful country-folk. The blonde hair, big blue eyes, and mid-western simplicity add to the appeal. There is a magnetic honesty about this work. She sings about love, tragedy, youth, self-loathing, religion; and she does so in such a straight forward manner that one can't help but find endearing. The album features a couple songs from past EP's, but they're more polished. The track "Oh Mississippi" is a beautiful, piano-driven ballad that may surprise you with its angelic vocals and inherent radiance. Although this artist is good at making those upbeat, poppy songs, there is definitely also a lot to be said for her more refined and slower tracks, both of which are present on this album. Although it's pretty easy listening, there is still an undeniable depth to this work that is both elegant and satisfying.

Burn & Rise! is downright incredible. Mad Sin has been one of the longer standing pyschobilly bands out there and every new album they impress more and more. Mad Sin apply the dark country sound, rockabiliy speed, and ,trashy blues to create a psychobilly abyss. Eighteen songs with a running time over 50 minutes they embed themselves into your ear drums and you have that twang guitar and country sound in your head forever (the good twang.) Once you hear Mad Sin you won't be able to forget them, they have been around for a little while so they are experienced unlike these dime a dozen psychobilly bands that hit the scene. Mad Sin are veterans to the genre and you can hear that every beat, pluck, and strum. They have a unique sound and it sounds like more is going on than there actually is. Burn & Rise! sounds like a score to some F'd up western film and you feel like you are driving an old Eldorado on the back roads in Texas with the night sky beaming down on you. So sit back and do the Zombie Stop (for psychobilly fans only.)
